Poi originated in the Māori culture and was originally used in their traditional dances. These dances often
consisted of many poi spinners, dancing and singing whilst striking their body with the poi to add percussion
to the song. It was also used to help train the Māori warriors.
In recent years, Poi spinning and Fire Dancing has become a popular form of entertainment throughout the world,
adding an exciting and unusual twist to any outdoors event.
